According to public sources, H.E. Mr. Carlos Miguel Pereira served as the Cuban Ambassador to China twice, from 2006 to 2011 and from 2019 to 2023, and worked at the Cuban Embassy in China in the early 1990s. According to a reporter from the Global Times, H.E. Mr. Carlos Miguel Pereira will leave China on the 26th of this month, and the new Cuban ambassador to China may arrive in China before October this year to resume his duties.

Today, 32 years have passed since my first visit to China in 1991. The reforms of the early 1990s were of decisive significance for China to ultimately become the most dynamic country in the global economy. Later, I returned at the end of 2006, when China began to break away from the 'shallow water zone' of reform and fully enter the deeper and more thorough 'deep water zone' of reform. In his farewell speech on the 19th , H.E. Mr. Carlos Miguel Pereira lamented the tremendous changes he had witnessed in China over the years.

He stated that during his stay in China, he has been striving to maintain an open mindset and curiosity, to experience the changes in China, and China has always surprised him to discover more experiences worth Cuba's in-depth research.

The Cuban diplomat stated that the importance of continuing to deepen the reform and development of China's socio-economic model is obvious. For Cuba, China's political, economic, and social development is crucial. This is not only because we have close political and economic connections, but more importantly, we also share a common socialist ideal. Although our respective socialism has different characteristics, we are all committed to seeking a better and just society, Cooperation with China has strengthened Cuba's ability to cope with the blockade and economic war imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than 50 years, and has put Cuba on the path of recovery and development.
