The 13th Peace Cup International Golf Tournament Demonstrates Cultural Diplomacy

On Sep 21st, 2012, the 13th Peace Cup International Golf Tournament was held in Hong Xi international golf club in Beijing. This activity was sponsored by Beijing Investment Promotion Bureau, Beijing Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment, Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China World Peace Foundation and Tianji Zhigu. The theme of this tournament is showing our love and promoting peace, constructing a world city through cultural diplomacy. Entrepreneurs, diplomatic envoys and government officials from more than 20 countries were invited to attend this tournament. They performed a grand friendly international meeting with their attention and persistence to peace. This tournament finished in great success and carried on the public welfare spirit of Peace Cup.

The Peace Cup International Golf Tournament has already been held for 13 years and it is one of the trademark projects of Beijing cultural diplomacy. It aims to promote world peace through sport and enhance friendship among different countries. It is widely concerned and supported by the entrepreneurs, diplomatic envoys and government officials. Players communicated with each about golf skills, different cultures, and industrial information at a warm atmosphere. During the past twelve years, this tournament has raised funds to help domestic schools for deaf-mutes, schools for blind, schools for children of peasant workers, Sichuan earthquake areas and International Peace and Sports Fund. For this 13th tournament, the donation will be used to sponsor the school of deaf in Nepal. The headmaster of this school, Sitaram Maskey, who is also the vice-chairman of the Olympic Committee of Nepal also showed up at this tournament. All the donations have been transferred to the Nepali representative. Sitaram Maskey expressed his thanks to the sponsors and participants, highly praised the friendship between China and Nepal, and presented two Nepali traditional paintings to the host of this tournament.


At the award ceremony, various prizes and Mid-Autumn Day souvenirs brought great surprises to players. The Director of Beijing Investment and Promotion Bureau Zhou Weimin delivered a speech to appreciate the support from sponsors and players and conveyed the determination and confidence of constructing Beijing as a world city. He also appealed people to carry on the public welfare spirit and devote themselves into world peace. Chairman of China World Peace Foundation Li Ruohong appreciated the efforts of various countries and their concerns on world peace. He also expressed his thanks to people with sincere love to public welfare and hoped that peace cup international golf tournament will contribute more to the patriotism and international socialist spirit, and deliver the peace mission in accord with UN Millennium Development Goals.
