The 2011 Ambassador Cup International Golf Tournament (12th “Peace Cup”), jointly sponsored by the Beijing Investment Promotion Bureau, Beijing Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment, Beijing people’s Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries, China World Peace Foundation and China Peace and Sport, was held in Beijing on September 23rd, 2011.
This event, under the theme of Promoting Peace with Sport and Building Beijing into a World City, was the first of its kind initiated by the China Peace and Sport and a symbol marking the establishment of the China Peace and Sport. It drew great concern and support from the media and the international circle. Among the participants to this event were representative golf players from 16 countries and regions, foreign diplomatic envoys to China, presidents of international companies, representatives from international organizations as well as officials and officers from the political and military circles among other prominent public figures.
China Peace and Sport, jointly established by Monaco Peace and Sport and China World Peace Foundation (CWPF), is a neutral international NGO serving as a platform for Peace promotion with sport and dedication to a sustainable peace, which is expected to play the role as a think tank to promote both dialogue and cooperation.
The Peace Cup Golf Tournament ,which has been held for 12 consecutive years, has created great opportunities for cooperation between governments of different countries and enterprises. Therefore, the event has gained high appraisals from representatives from the international NGOs and other circles. During this event, the diplomatic envoys, high-profile executives, cultural elites and sport stars among other prominent public figures all appealed to the whole world for peace in various ways.
At the award ceremony, the keynote speeches and wonderful performances won rounds of applauses from time to time. When addressing the audience, CWPF chairman, Mr. Li Ruohong, chairman of Monaco Peace and Sport and Secretary General of UIPM, Mr. Joel Bouzou stated that sport was an optimized instrument to alleviate conflicts, enhance and stabilize unity as well as promote peace and harmony. They also expressed gratitude for years’ cooperation and support from all parties. The “Peace Cup” gave full play to the unique role of sport in promoting understanding and friendship between different countries and peoples.
