Columbia University Students from 16 Countries Visit Folk Diplomatic Platform – Peace Garden

At the invitation of Chairman Li Ruohong of China World Peace Foundation, more than 50 students of Columbia University from China (leader), America, Canada, Germany, UK, Australia, Brazil, Nepal, Japan, Spain, South Korea, Iran, Indian, Iraq and other countries visited Peace Garden on May 22nd 2012. This visit, with its theme “Columbia University students in the Peace Garden – Insight China”, was co hosted by China World Peace Foundation and Columbia University of United States. It was an important part of the summer activities of Columbia University, aiming that the students could personally experience the changes of Chinese society in the fields of politics, economy, culture and life, feel a real and objective China, and discuss on the educational cooperation with China World Peace Foundation. Some students who have already graduated from Columbia University and are now working for Chinese economic development were also invited to participate in this activity.

 
The delegation visited the special landscape symbolizing world peace and took pictures in Peace Garden. In the opening ceremony, Chairman Li Ruohong introduced to students about the Peace Plus public service model of China World Peace Foundation and how the foundation interacts with international society keeping to the point of peace and arts, peace and sports, peace and education and peace and healthcare. The assistant director of the global center of Columbia University expressed her heartfelt thanks to Chairman Li Ruohong, and her wish for Columbia University to launch deeper communications with China World Peace Foundation. The student representatives also made active speeches and conveyed their excitement as well as thanks to the sponsor.

 
As the night comes, the lake, with the reflection of the shadow, glittering in the rays of the setting sun, was extremely beautiful. While having the splendid dinner, the students enjoyed the traditional and exquisite performance of Face Off in Sichuan Opera. This party won rounds of applause and warm atmosphere. Chairman Li Ruohong walked among the students and had a cordial talk with them, simply introducing the basic situation of China World Peace Foundation and encouraging the students to know more about contemporary NGOs in China and their more and more important role in improving world peace.
 
At the end of this party, Chairman Li Ruohong presented his book “NGOs in China”to Columbia University students under their request. They expressed their love to this book which could help them to know more about NGOs in China, to this beautiful, harmonious and internationalized peace garden, and their wish for a second chance to visit.
