On May 29, Mr. Yuji Miyamoto, director-general of Japan-China Friendship Center and former Japanese ambassador to China visited the Beijing Peace Garden Museum. Mr. Li Ruohong, president of China World Peace Foundation and director-general of Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation conducted in-depth conversation with Mr. Yuji Miyamoto regarding strengthening Belt and Road economic and cultural communication between China and Japan and enhance bilateral friendly relations.

Mr. Yuji Miyamoto said that this year marked the 40th anniversary of the conclusion of the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship as well as China’s Reform and Opening-up. China and Japan should hold more cultural activities to advance friendship between the two peoples. This should play a pivotal role in the development of Sino-Japan relations.

Mr. Yuji Miyamoto said that the Belt and Road Initiative, or BRI, brings benefits to Asia and the whole world and that Japan should actively participated in it. He suggested that more Sino-Japanese cooperation should be carried out under the BRI framework, especially economic cooperation among enterprises.

Li Ruohong said that on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the conclusion of the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship, the public diplomacy of both countries should seize the momentum and analyze the changes of international situations from a wholistic and historic point of view. The public diplomacy should view the Sino-Japanese relations with philosophical perspective and carry out its due responsibility. Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation is willing to jointly hold various forms of cultural activities with the Japan-China Friendship Center to promote understanding and friendship between people in China and Japan.
